Mr. Jyoti Sagar, President and Chair
Mr. Sagar, a noted philanthropist, was the long time Vice-President of Sampradaan, till he was elected as President in 2008. By profession, he is a legal practitioner since 1976. He founded J. Sagar Associates (JSA) in New Delhi in 1991. He has extensive experience in a wide range of practice areas, viz. corporate and commercial laws; mergers & acquisitions; banking; finance and infrastructure projects. He has worked extensively on several policy issues and serves on various committees of the Government of India and chambers of commerce. He founded K+S Partners, Intellectual Property Attorneys in 1994 and is the Senior Partner of that firm. He is member of several professional bodies including Association of International Petroleum Negotiators; Supreme Court of India Bar Association; Inter-Pacific Bar Association; American Bar Association; International Trademark Association; and Asian Patent Attorneys Association. He is also associated with Deepalaya, a non-government development organization working on issues affecting the urban and rural poor, with a special focus on child education. He is on the Governing Council of Common Cause, is Vice President of Society for Urban Regeneration of Gurgaon and serves as a Trustee of Genesis Foundation.
Dr. Mrithyunjay Athreya, Chief Mentor
Dr. Athreya is one of the foremost management gurus in India. He is one of the Founder Members and First President & Chair of Sampradaan. He has a doctorate in Business Administration from Harvard University, USA, besides being a Gold Medalist in Cost Accountancy from the Institute of Management Accountants, London. He has been associated with various levels of public life like corporate groups; academic institutions like Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata; London Business School; Scottish Business School. He was the Director of many Corporate Boards and Member of many Government Policy Committees, since 1971. He is also the Founder Chairperson of Sri Sringeri Institute of Management.
Mr. Ajay S. Mehta, Member
Mr. Mehta is the Executive Director of National Foundation for India, a pioneer institution committed to public philanthropy in India. His current stint with NFI is backed up by a long association with grassroots efforts in rural development. He has been associated in the capacity of Chief Executive or Board Member of some of the distinguished institutions in India, like Hunger International, Gandhi Peace Centre, and Seva Mandir. Seva Mandir is a non-governmental organization working for the development of the rural and tribal population in Udaipur and Rajsamand districts of southern Rajasthan.
Mr. Rohit Bhasin, Member
Mr. Bhasin is the Executive Director of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Corporate Finance & Recovery; and at the same time Head of the PWC valuations and strategy group. He is a Chartered Accountant by education. He was also involved with some specific committees of Government of India to take forward the financial reforms.
Mr. K.N. Changappa, Member
Mr. Changappa is the Director of Coorg Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Tata Coffee Limited. He is the founder of Coorg Wildlife Society, and also affiliated with the Lions Club, Kodagu. He is also a member of Kodagu Model Forest Trust, Karnataka. The Kodagu Model Forest Trust is a non-profit organisation working for the conservation of forest and environment, as well as the welfare of the forest dwellers. KMFT is going through a process of repositioning to emerge as a community foundation.
Major General A.P.S. Chauhan (Retired), Member
Maj. Gen. Chauhan is a retired officer of the Indian Army. A military engineer by discipline, he has held diverse and key appointments during his long career as a professional soldier, ranging from instructor at the Indian Military Academy and the elite High Altitude Warf and staff at the Military Operations Branch. Post retirement he has been devoted to the welfare of rural society pioneered by All India Ex Soldiers League, of which he is the founding Vice President. Presently, he is the President of Sainik Foundation, an emerging community foundation which focuses on rural development, self-governance, and community philanthropy.
Ms. Lakshmi V. Venkatesan , Member
An alma mater of Delhi University, India and New York University, USA, Lakshmi holds two Masters degrees in Physics and Engineering Science. After a successful executive career in telecommunications with the prestigious AT & T - Bell Laboratories, USA she heard the call of the nation and was among the select few who returned to serve India in the late 1980’s, after spending nearly two decades abroad.
Aware and respectful of her privileged background as the daughter of the former President of India H.E. R.Venkataraman, Lakshmi is keen to create opportunities and foster the dreams of the underprivileged youth of India. She co-founded “Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust” (BYST) in 1992 with the doyen of industry, late J R D Tata and with the support of HRH Prince Charles. BYST works, with the captains of Indian industry, to support young underprivileged entrepreneurs and to create employment across the country. Over the past 12 years, many of these “bottom of the pyramid” entrepreneurs have become millionaires, winning national and international awards. She also partners with Prince Charles and his Youth Business International to train and set-up similar programs in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Lakshmi serves on numerous task forces and boards. She is also a recipient of several honours: Shiromani Award, GOI; Award for Social Entrepreneurship, CII; "The Sake of Honour Award" Rotary Club, Chennai; Award for Technical Excellence, Bell-Labs, USA. She has also been awarded with – “Real Wealth Creators for the communities” at the 5th Karamveer Puraskaar 2010-2011, on 26th November 2010.
